Algae control in drinking water treatment plant
LG Sonic® algae control products control and prevent growth of cyanobacteria, biofilm and filamentous bacteria in drinking water tanks. Cyanobacteria and filamentous bacteria can produce toxins, geosmins and MIB which give a bad taste and smell to the water or potentially cause diseases. With the presence of organic compounds to the water like algae and biofilm, chlorination often results in the formation of THM’s. LG Sonic® controls the formation of these compounds without chemicals preventing problems with the taste of the water and optimizing the water treatment process.
Controls algae
Algae growth in water reservoirs can be controlled without chemicals or labor with the LG Sonic® technology. The sound signals produced by the LG Sonic® technology is so strong that it can even control algae in reservoirs with a low retention time.
Controls biofilm formation
The sound waves produced by the LG Sonic® are strong enough to inhibit the adherence of bacteria to a surface. EPS, present in an existing biofilm, is directly targeted, degrading the biofilm.
Controls cyanobacterial toxins, MIB and geosmins
By controlling blue-green algae growth, toxins and other negative side effects of an algal bloom will be reduced simultaneously with your algal problems.
Better interaction between reagents and reactants.
Ultrasonic vibrations partially disintegrate larger suspended solids, increasing the reaction surface of the solid. Due to the constant vibration, contact time between reagent and reactant is shortened. Both factors lead to a more efficient process and possible reduction of any added reagent like chlorine, coagulant or flocculent.
Also effective in tanks with a low retention time
LG Sonic® uses the Dc-Mf technology TM which enables the devices to affect several different algal species within a second. Therefore the LG Sonic® technology works fast and efficient enough to be applied in tanks with a low retention time.
NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certified.
NSF/ANSI Standard 61 includes criteria for testing and evaluating products to ensure they do not leach contaminants into the water that would be a health concern. On the contrary of our competitors, all products from the LG Sonic line can be provided NSF/ANSI Standard 61 compliant for all reservoirs from only 2.000 gallon and up.
Typical installation
The ultrasonic sound waves produced by LG Sonic® control the formation of algae and biofilm within the range of the transmitter. Guidelines to install LG Sonic in your drinking water treatment plant:
- To optimally control algae and biofilm, it is important to make sure thecomplete surface of the reservoir is covered.
- The time LG Sonic needs to control existing algae cells varies between 2 days and 3 weeks. However, the formation of new algal and bacterial cells is prevented directly. Therefore, installing the LG Sonic products is always most effective in the reservoirs where algae start growing.
