Detail

When algae occur in swimming pools it is instantly visible. Algae colour the water, give a bad odour to the water and can even become a health risk to users because of the toxin production of certain blue-green algae. In addition chlorine consumption often rises when algae grow rapidly. Finally biofilm can occur and the water will start to smell badly.

A lot of black algae have accumulated between and on the tiles. The tiles have become clear but the water is still turbid due to the dissolved debris. The water has become clear, still some algae are left between the tiles but most have dissapeared.

Enjoy your swimming pool without the need to measure out high levels of Chlorine?

Swimming pools often need to be maintained with high dosages of chlorine to keep the water clear and free from algae and unwanted bacteria. The dosage of chlorine or other chemicals however, can be expensive, harmful for the environment and induce irritation to the skin and eyes of bathers. Often people would like to reduce the dosage of the chemical treatment in their swimming pools. The LG Sonic® can contribute to a reduction of the concentration of algae and bacteria in an environmentally friendly manner. The LG Sonic® Pool also attacks the hard-to-kill black algae which stains your pool’s walls and floors. Once treated with the LG Sonic these types of algae are easy to remove from your pool’s tiling and will be prevented from growing back. The biofilm, slimy attachments on the sides of the pool, will loosen and can be cleaned easily. As a result the chlorine consumption in your pool can be lowered, normally with 40 to 60%. The LG Sonic® system will not only control but will prevent further algae growth.

Chlorine reduction in swimming pools

Normally the use of chlorine can be lowered up to 40-60%. But some chlorine (or UV installation) might still be needed because these methods (UV & chlorine) are mainly used to eradicate the other micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria and parasites) other than algae. The dead algae will either sink to the bottom or float to the surface, depending on the type of algae. All these algae can be filtered out or scooped out. Some dead algae can stay attached to a certain surfaces such as swimming pool gravel but they are loosely attached and easy to remove (even with a finger). The LG Sonic system will not only control but will prevent further algae growth.

Step by Step:

LG Sound advises swimming pool owners to reduce chlorine dosage in small steps. In every water reservoir, a balance exists between micro-organisms (eg. Algae, bacteria, viruses etc), chemicals and other physico-chemical components. When stopping chlorine treatment at once, or reducing the treatment of chlorine at a large scale the balance in a swimming pool can become drastically disturbed. Even though the LG Sonic might be installed already an algae bloom may occur in response to the sudden absence of chlorine. When reducing chlorine treatment in a swimming pool, LG Sound advises to take the following steps:

Installation of the LG Sonic.

  1. Leave the LG Sonic in operation beside the standard chlorine treatment for a few weeks.
  2. When the effect of the LG Sonic becomes visible one may start reducing the DOSAGE of chlorine step by step.
  3. Reduce the chlorine at small scale with high interval, for example reduce the chlorine dosage with 5% and keep this treatment for one or two weeks.
  4. During these reduction one must constantly be aware of changes within the water. Does the water lose it’s clarity? Do there seem to be more algae?
  5. As soon as the water quality seems to become less after reducing the chlorine dosage LG Sound advises to stop reducing chlorine treatment.

pH

In most swimming pools the pH is being maintained with much precision. This in fact is a good thing, since the pH of the water is of great importance for algal growth. With the increasing of the pH in your pool, in fact, algal concentrations usually also increase drastically. Especially with pH levels above 8, algae may bloom extensively. When treating a swimming pool with the LG Sonic we advise our swimming pool owners to keep pH levels between 6,8 and 7,2 to keep algal growth at bay.
