Irrigation Reservoirs

    Control Algae with Ultrasound

Treating algae with ultrasound allows prevent clogging of pumps, filters, and sprinklers.

      • Eliminate up to 70-90% of the algae
      • Increase agriculture productivity
      • Prevent clogging of filters

    How ultrasound targets algae

    Prevent the clogging of filters

Water used for irrigation can contain high levels of nutrients; some of these nutrients are beneficial for the plants watered, but can also lead to extensive algal growth.

Algae in irrigation reservoirs can clog the irrigation system and can also be spread over the irrigated area. In addition, some types of fungus also present in these waters can be extremely harmful for the plants grown.

    Algae in irrigation water

    Algae in irrigation water

Almost 60 percent of all the world’s freshwater withdrawals go towards irrigation uses where landholders use water basins and farm dams to irrigate their crops. Irrigation water is vulnerable to blue-green algal bloom- particularly during peak summer months. Because of an algal bloom, the water source may become contaminated. It is recommended to avoid the use of contaminated water since it can have a negative impact on humans’ health.

    Negative effects of algicides

Care must be taken in the use of algicides, as with the use of any aquatic herbicide. Algicides cause cell rupture, and intracellular toxins will be released into the environment. Often these algicides have restriction periods for different uses of the water, such as watering livestock or irrigation. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), 47 percent of the world population could be living under severe water stress by 2050. Therefore, the agriculture industry needs new technologies that allow farmers to increase their water use efficiency.

    Case study Irrigation Dam

    All our cases

One LG Sonic e-line was installed to treat the water. The unit was connected to a local power source. The water in the dam showed significant improvement. After two months, there were no visible filamentous algae present in the holding dam

“The LG Sonic Ultrasonic unit was installed the last week of November (beginning of Summer) and powered continuously 24/7. After 3 weeks, the algae was clearly seen to be affected by the ultrasonic unit. By the end of December, the algae had been reduced with only an estimated 10% remaining. By mid January, no algae was visible in the dam. Considering the extent of this initial infestation at what was virtually the start of the Summer season, the performance of the ultrasonic unit was very impressive and continued to provide an algae free water supply.”.

LG Sonic is running MPC-Buoy projects in more than 20 countries worldwide
