Prevent biofouling growth

Algae can grow in the cooling tower itself and on the grids from the tower. This could lead to enormous disadvantages of biofilm in cooling towers. Therefore, water used in cooling towers needs frequent treatment and chemical shocks to keep levels of micro-organisms to a minimum.

The LG Sonic Industrial Line allows to reduce chemical dosage and offers local treatment were biofouling growth can’t be prevented with chemicals.

NIPSCO
NIPSCO chooses a greener path to comply with NPDES

Complying with NPDES regulations In the search of an eco-friendly and effective solution to comply with NPDES discharge regulations, NIPSCO installed 5 MPC-Buoy systems at R. M. Schahfer Generating Station in Indiana, USA. High TSS and pH are mainly caused by algal blooms which are now treated with the ultrasound technology of LG Sonic. NIPSCO uses a large reservoir for settling out suspended solids prior to discharging the water back…

Improved water quality with MPC-Buoy

Improving water quality In sunny California, MPC-Buoy technology is controlling algae in reclaimed water since 2018. Vallecitos Water District provides 5.25 million gallons recycled water for irrigation every day. TSS levels need to be low to fulfil the demands of modern irrigation systems. Algae increases TSS and clogs the filters that are in place to remove TSS prior to the distribution to the irrigation systems. This allows for less cleaning…

73% blue-green algae reduction in Dubai

Reducing algae growth In August 2018, LG Sonic began a new project in Dubai in collaboration with the Dubai Municipality to control algal blooms in the Al Qudra lakes. The lakes were created by the municipality as part of a project to enrich this part of the Dubai desert. To control the algal blooms, three MPC-Buoys were installed. After 60 days, it was clear that the systems improved the water…

Biofilm formation

In a cooling system there are billions of bacteria which are held together by a slimy substance (EPS). The formation of a biofilm, or biofouling come into existence when the bacteria stops moving, settles down and becomes part of a biofilm. To this layer, other organisms such as algae, weeds, parasites, muscles or even barnacles may attach.

Due to biofouling- negative effects may occur such as increased chemical consumption, corrosion and increases in power requirements of the system.
