Prevent Biofouling and Reduce Fuel Costs in Sea Chests, Hulls and Cooling Basins

Biofouling growth increases the drag on a hull which results in a ship that uses up to 40% more fuel and correspondingly produces 40% more CO2 emissions. The marine industry globally spends billions of dollars in addressing fouling, using a variety of protection methods such as coatings. LG Sonic, a Dutch algae and biofouling control solutions provider, has introduced an Industrial Line which provides a cost-effective and non-invasive solution to improve the maintenance of ships. The system deploys long range ultrasonic waves travelling throughout the steel plates of a ship’s hull in order to prevent and control biofouling. LG Sonic is going to exhibit during the Marine Maintenance Expo, which takes place from 21 June to 23 June 2016 in the RAI, Amsterdam.

Prevent biofouling with ultrasound

The use of continuous ultrasonic sound waves prevents the accumulation of fouling by driving biomolecules away from the hull. With the LG Sonic industrial line ultrasound, the occurrence of cavitation can be disregarded and the anticorrosion layer will be preserved. Ultrasound effectively prevents biofouling without the use of harmful chemicals and without harming the marine ecosystem. It reduces the costs of fuel and the frequent maintenance of vessels in dry-docks in order to remove fouling.

Biofouling solutions shown during Marine Maintenance Expo, Rai Amsterdam

LG Sonic is going to exhibit during the Marine Maintenance Expo 2016 to show its latest technology to prevent and control biofouling with ultrasound in sea chest and hulls. The Marine Maintenance Expo 2016 takes place in the RAI, Amsterdam from 21 June to 23 June, 2016. The Marine Maintenance Expo is an international exhibition of marine maintenance technologies, services and systems together with the latest ship and off-shore rig maintenance concepts and techniques.
