Last week, the global water community gathered in Stockholm for World Water Week 2026 and we were proud to be part of the conversation.
Held from 23rd to 27th August and organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), World Water Week is the leading annual gathering for the people working to solve the world’s most pressing water challenges. This year’s theme, “Water for People and Progress,” brought together policymakers, researchers, businesses, and civil society around a shared goal: building a more just and water-secure future in a changing climate. For a team that spends every season restoring water quality in the lakes and reservoirs communities depend on, it was exactly the right room to be in.
Water for People and Progress
Our CTO, Lisa Brand, represented LG Sonic in person in Stockholm, stepping on stage to share how chemical-free technology is changing the way communities manage and protect their water. While Lisa was on the ground in Stockholm, our US Director, Greg joined online on the same stage sharing the positive impacts LG Sonic has made for surface water worldwide.
Their message was simple but urgent: clean, healthy water isn’t only a question of large-scale infrastructure. It’s also about the lakes, ponds, and reservoirs that people live beside, swim in, and draw from every day, waters that are increasingly threatened by harmful algae blooms as temperatures climb. Drawing on real-world results from our successful projects worldwide, Lisa made the case that sustainable, chemical-free treatment isn’t a compromise. It’s an approach that works, and keeps working, season after season, without introducing chemicals into the ecosystems it’s meant to protect. That framing fit naturally with this year’s theme. Progress on water means more than new technology, it means solutions that people and the planet can rely on for the long term.
Why it mattered to us for surface water management
Leaving Stockholm, we came away with new connections, fresh ideas, and a renewed conviction that the future of water treatment is sustainable, community-focused, and chemical-free. Sitting alongside the people setting the global water agenda reaffirmed something we already believed: the challenges facing our lakes and waterways are shared, and so are the solutions.
