Chemical-Free Water Treatment at Exposibram 2025 in Brazil

At Exposibram 2025, one of Latin America’s largest mining events, our team in Brazil joined the Dutch delegation organized by the Dutch Technical Team for Dam Safety (DTTD) to showcase sustainable, chemical-free water treatment technology. The event, held in Brazil, brought together leading mining companies, regulators, and innovators focused on advancing responsible mining practices.

Algae risks in the mining sector

During the event, Lucas Cordeiro, Country Manager for LG Sonic Brazil, presented the company’s innovative solutions for controlling harmful algal blooms and improving water quality in mining operations. His presentation focused on the multiple risks that algae pose to the mining industry:

  • Economic risks: Increased chemical usage, reduced operational efficiency, and unplanned downtime caused by algae proliferation can significantly raise treatment costs.

  • Regulatory risks: Non-compliance with Brazilian environmental standards can lead to severe fines and operational embargoes.

  • Ecological risks: The spread of cyanobacteria and associated toxins can result in fish mortality and serious water quality deterioration.

By addressing these challenges, we reinforce our mission to make industrial water management more sustainable and reliable.

Real-Time Water Management

LG Sonic’s presentation emphasised the company’s real-time and in-depth water monitoring systems, which provide a more accurate understanding of water quality than traditional sampling-based methods. Combined with ultrasonic algae control technology, this approach enables mining operations to eliminate the use of harmful chemicals while maintaining compliance and optimizing performance.

This data-driven technology allows operators to take preventive actions before water quality deteriorates, helping companies achieve both environmental and economic efficiency.

Engaging with Industry Leaders

Throughout Exposibram, LG Sonic met with key stakeholders in the Brazilian mining sector, including representatives from Vale, Bamin, Largo, Atlantic Nickel, and members of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB). These meetings opened new opportunities for collaboration in implementing sustainable water management practices across Brazil’s mining industry.

Driving Sustainability in Mining

As water scarcity and environmental regulations tighten globally, we continue to partner with industries seeking to reduce their ecological footprint. Participation in Exposibram 2025 reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting Brazil’s transition toward chemical-free, real-time water treatment; a critical step toward safer, more sustainable mining operations.
